Join us on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 as we welcome Dr. Neils-Erik Jacobsen, from the Kipnes Urology Centre here in Edmonton.
 
We have asked Dr. Jacobsen to speak about
  • Prostatectomy  Information on procedure(s), 
  • How / why (criteria for ) the recommendation for the procedure is made
  • Limitations on patient qualifications for prostatectomy
  • Margins
  • Post surgery follow-up – ensuring therapy was effective
  • How urinary function is ensured, 
  • BPH and therapy procedures – what is available in Edmonton 
  • Bladder issues resulting from enlarged prostate
  • Anything else that he may like to speak upon.
 
We will collect questions  a week or so prior to the night, and pass those questions on, with the caveat that not all questions can be answered, and that we stay away from details relative to individual cases.  Please send your questions to:  johnbreen426@gmail.com
 
We will provide light snacks and drinks at the meeting. 
 
As always, you are encouraged to bring along a friend or family member that may be facing a PC diagnosis. If you are aware of someone struggling with PC, let us know and we will try to help.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 14th, as we welcome Dr. Adam Kinnaird, Urologist and Researcher at the Kipnes Urology Centre, Edmonton.

Dr.  Kinnaird has recently been awarded the prestigious 2026 European Association of Urology Imaging Award in London, England, for his pioneering research in prostate cancer diagnostics. 

In addition, he has been awarded a $570,000 grant to lead a global clinical trial exploring advanced screening technologies. It’s an honor to have him with us.

We have asked Dr. Kinnaird to speak on three areas of interest to our group:  Prostate Biopsies,  Cryotherapy and his research initiatives

 

·  how / why (criteria for ) the recommendation for each of the procedures is made,

·  Targeted MRI-guided Biopsy procedure and recovery 

·  Recommendation and Qualification / Limitations  for cryotherapy

·  Immediate (days following) cryo follow-up – catheter, meds, aftercare…

·  Post cryo follow-up – how it is ensured that therapy was effective

·  Post procedure urinary function  

·  Research initiatives and clinical trials

 

We typically ask our members for input on what you may like to hear about and what questions you may have. As always, you are encouraged to bring along a family member to share the evening, and you may like to invite a friend who may be facing and/or struggling with a PC diagnosis.  Our group is here to offer help and support.

Talk to a member that has received prostate cancer treatment

You may not want to ask questions at a group meeting. You may want to speak with someone having the same issues. You may want to talk with someone who has gone through the same treatment you are considering. Or after treatment, you may be dealing with complications.
